This site is dedicated to exposing and critiquing the uncecessary BULLSHIT that abounds in the art world. Rather than critique artists themselves, who have enough problems (but are often complicit), we are honing in on the proliferation of pretentious and alienating language used to discuss art: in press releases, reviews, and articles. We are also in search of clarity in language, rather than the insular academic drivel that passes for smarts these days. Thank you. (painting by Joy Garnett)

I just went on an art retreat to discuss the hurdles that the contemporary art scene in Philadelphia must overcome in order to get art “out there”. I’m not particularly snobby in my tastes, but I’m constantly bombarded by jargon and special “art lingo” that is impossible to wade through–if one wants to get to the heart of things. I suggested an “experiencing art” guidebook that could be used at galleries and museums to help open the dialogue between viewers, curators and artists–to include glossaries, examples, key words, facts and illuminating tidbits. I believe bridging this gap is necessary in order to make art accessible, or at least available, to people other than art-intelligentsia.
